PONDICHERRY, official known as PUDUCHERRY and commonly referred to as just PONDY, is a French colonial settlement in India until 1954, is now a Union territory town bounded by the south eastern Tamil Nadu state. Its French legacy is preserved in its French Quarters, with tree lined streets, mustard colored colonial villas and chic boutiques. This french colony is a perfect amalgamation of the traditional Indian sensibilities and French architecture, making it a dreamy escape that offers the best of both worlds.
A seaside promenade runs along the Bay of Bengal and passes several statues, including a 4 meter high Gandhi Memorial.
as we wandered around Pondi, thru lanes and tree lined streets, it is so quiet and clean, not the normal noisy "hustle bustle India" that we know of.
